South African MVNA replaces its legacy charging system with Totogi’s multi-tenant charging on AWS, migrating its entire subscriber base and live balances in a single cutover of just under four hours

Austin, TX – September 22, 2026 — Totogi today announced that 85 Group, one of South Africa’s largest mobile virtual network aggregators (MVNAs), has gone live on Totogi Charging-as-a-Service across its 21 MVNOs, retiring a legacy Online Charging System and moving every MVNO onto one multi-tenant, cloud-native platform with real-time charging.

Totogi moved 85 Group’s entire subscriber base — live balances included — in a single cutover of just under four hours, fully reconciled, before traffic was cut back over. Migrations at this scale normally run brand by brand, window by window; this one moved all 21 MVNOs at once. AI-generated data mapping using the Totogi Ontology translated the legacy data structures into Totogi’s own, automating months of work. The cutover ran without a single repeat attempt and needed minimal work from 85 Group’s own engineers.

85 Group’s MVNOs serve subscribers across voice, data, SMS, and value-added services on MTN’s network. One master tenant receives all traffic and routes it to separate tenants, one per MVNO — each with its own plans, balances, and rating, and direct control over pricing and promotions. Launching the next MVNO now means adding a tenant, not building infrastructure. Days, not months. Two more MVNOs will go live in November 2026.

85 Group selected Totogi for its AI and its API-first architecture: open APIs let 85 Group’s own engineers build the BSS systems they actually need on top of the charging platform, rather than waiting on a vendor’s front-end tooling. Security was a gating requirement in the selection: 85 Group is ISO/IEC 27001:2022 accredited, and Totogi met its requirements in full.

Totogi also serves as 85 Group’s policy engine, removing the need for a separate policy vendor. That allowed 85 Group to launch social data bundles for the first time, such as a 250MB allowance shared across WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and TikTok — an offer its previous system could not support.
